wait what's your thoughts on pop punk

i dont have that many im kinda just saying stuff. i listened to it a lot when i was younger and i dont return to it that often as an adult. mostly its interesting to me as like, the assimilationist period of an art movement that prided itself on being abrasive and anticommercial. like im not saying fugazi didnt have some big rousing choruses but they weren't Writing Pop Songs the way blink-182 was, yknow? and dont get me started on fall out boy, i never had any respect for those guys and their imagine dragons period in the late 2010s didnt help. i have a little more respect for mcr but also theyve never been my personal cup of tea. honestly these days them and green day look a lot more like the prog dinosaurs of the 70s and 80s then the punk bands they started out emulating. but none of this is new. none of this is surprising. its all just kind of depressing. everything difficult will be made palatable. every rough edge will see sandpaper. nothing strange will remain strange.

you could also argue the pop element of punk was there from the start. the ramones were obsessed w 60s bubblegum pop, the cramps were all abt 50s teeny bopper rock and roll, etc. indie music of the last like 15 years looooooves collapsing girl group into noise rock into punk, and it all fits well enough you forget those were largely separate things to begin with. if youre in the right room you can make everyone furious by arguing the ramones are a pop punk band actually lol. you could also argue that punk is fake. the british press named the genre out of spite. all that shit w/ the sex pistols being styled by vivienne westwood and whatever. i dont know ive already given this post too much thought and im ending it.
